Salesforce.com and Google join hands
Headline news this week from the world of hosted CRM is the coming together of Google and Salesforce.com to potentially dominate the hosted-applications market space. It will now be possible to purchase Google Applications via Salesforce.com. The partnership between the search giant and the dominant hosted CRM provider will surely have a far reaching impact on the market. Integrating products from the two companies one can now acquire a more complete database covering several aspects of customer information.
Google’s reputation for data security will do Salesforce.com a world of good given that there are still many companies chary about handing over their data to a third party. Marc Benioff has stated that the enemy “Google” of its enemy “Microsoft” is its friend and it hopes to push Microsoft further on the back foot in the hosted CRM software space. This could be the beginning of several unions designed to take on Microsoft. Microsoft, however; does have a fair bit of advantage as far as unifying communication and productivity tools are concerned. Microsoft CRM integrates with Microsoft productivity tools and has been in the market for quite some time.
